The best option is Geoff's have the chain regalvanised. This is contingent on your having a galvaniser to whom you can deliver the chain as delivery costs can kill any deal. If you deliver yourself - 10mm chain is immensely heavy and 12/13mm must be a nightmare. Many galvanisers do not like galvanising chain - so check and double check.
The standard rule is - if you have lost more than 10% of the wire diameter (from which the chain is made) and or the rust is falling of in big flakes - buy new chain. So if its 8mm chain and now measures 7.2mm, or less - dump the chain and buy new.
If you define where your yacht is based someone here will be able to tell you where the nearest galvaniser is located.
Unfortunately regalvanising chain has largely become uneconomic and very few galvanisers now offer the service. The big advantage of regalvanising, apart from cost, is that it puts more zinc onto the steel than was originally provided.
