Hi,

I am currently buying a boat in Ireland, Cork, and bring her back to the UK and I am wondering if anyone can confirm something about the Irish Registry?

The boat has had 2 owners, the first being in the UK and the second in Ireland, looking at the scans of the original invoice showing VAT paid, 1st bill of sale and 2nd bill of sale to the current owner in Ireland everything looks ok, from the research I have done it seems impossible to get a boat on to the Irish Registry without proving VAT paid status or paying any VAT due, as I have also tracked down the first owner who has confirmed everything I have no real issue with the VAT status/ title paperwork trail.

However, and getting to the point, on asking the broker and current owner if all the original paperwork will come with the boat they have stated that once a boat is on the Irish Registry the original paperwork to that point is retained by the Irish Registry and they only issue certified copies on request, they can also issue a transcript of the registration showing the VAT status/ title paperwork trail.

From what I understand the French Registry work in a similar way but do not retain the originals which creates its own issues...

She will be de-registered from the Irish Registry and registered in the UK.

I have put in a call to the Irish Registry and waiting for a call back, although from their very relaxed approach to my enquiry I think I may have to call them back to nudge them a bit, so in the meantime I was wondering if anyone can confirm how it works!?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice!

Steve
