Good morning,

I have no understanding of Irish Politics, but could somebody please tell me if the present Irish Govt can be compared to Socialist ( Labour) or Capitalist ( Conservative).

Either way they have problems.

Many thanks

I beg to differ with NDH: the question should not be in the Lounge but perhaps in some parallel universe. Why would a post headed "Irish Banks" ask what it did without once mentioning...er, Irish banks?

The answer to the question that should be elsewhere is, in typical Irish fashion, both. They have a coalition government led by right-of centre Fine Gael with the Labour party. The other main party is Fine Fail.

Which brings to mind a tenuous boaty link. Charlie Haughey, Fine Fail's profoundly bent former chief embezzler....sorry, party leader...had a large motor yacht named Celtic Mist. He also managed to get by with a private island, a mansion and a string of racehorses. There, everybody happy? :)

Celtic Mist now for sale: http://www.aaamarine.co.uk/moreDetails.asp?Ptype=BY&idProduct=888
But don't ask an Irish bank for the finance...

Not sure if the misspelling of Fianna Fáil was intended but is certainly very apt!
