IRC certificates

I fear I am a thorough cruising type, but this year I thought I would have a "do" at Cork Week in my Moody 36 bilge keeler. (Gentlemen's Class you will understand!).

I require to obtain from RORC an IRC certificate and have started the process of attempting to complete the web based EXCEL form.

Various measured parameters are required for hull, rig and sails- many of which are neither in the "ships papers" or the Moody archived website for this type.
Can anyone help point me to where I might find all this guff? Perhaps another kind Moody 36 owner? (mine is the Bill Dixon 1998 model).

Others might need actual measurement. What dimensions, in particular, are you after? One measurement which is worth making for yourself, if you are taking things seriously, is weight. Weighing your boat in racing trim will almost certainly get you a better handicap than relying on the designers 'light' displacement. But this costs and you have to ask yourself whether it's worth it.

Get yourself a tape measure and start measuring! You need the actual measurements off your boat, not what Moodys think they might be! There is a diagram in the IRC yearbook explaining the overhangs, rig measurements etc.

The rating office are very helpful at sorting out queries etc. Just give tham a call/e mail.

Hmmm! I spent hours doing loads of measurements for Sweet6 Lucy a few years ago, including overhangs etc. When the certificate came back the RORC had reset most of them to the builders' figures.
