Ipswich marinas

I have a non-sailing crew along this weekend.
I am thinking of heading up the Orwell to Ipswich.
Fancy an evening in the Lord Nelson.

Do the marinas in the wet dock do overnight moorings?
Is it all sodium lights and noise all night?

Any other suggestions?
 
I've only been in Neptune. We didn't like the fact that you had to go outside and across the road and into another gated part to the loos. Not very pleasant at night particularly for the ladies. I wouldn't go there again.
 
Yes, both marinas have visitor berths...

Neptune slightly more convenient for town, and Lord Nelson, but Haven a bit quieter, and stil only 5 min walk to the pub and as Roger says, Neptune isn't ideal for young kids or women of a nervous disposition, with having to cross a road for the loos...
 
Haven is indeed on the left as you go in, keep on going right round the corner. Much quieter than the Neptune last week. Free wifi too if you are desperate to use the internet.
 
It's a while since I've been into Ipswich but it might be where we end up on Saturday night.

I don't remember having to cross the road to use the loos. Seem to remember a portacabin type loo and shower block inside the marina. Also a big locked gate to keep people out of the marina. You have to get into the marina early enough to get the keycode from the HM or you'll find yourself locked out after visiting the Lord Nelson.
 
We were broken into while on board at the Haven (4am wife said somebody on board, door started opening towards me as I went to open it, and then he legged it up pontoon) so keep doors locked, particularly up the far end near the skateboard park.

As a resident of the wet dock, the Haven (Port) side is the better bet for avoiding noise and closeness of facilities. Visitors berths are right outside the showers and marina office (unless directed elswhere)
It is about a 15 minute walk to the Nelson due to the building works on the Neptune side causing a slight diversion. You will get some noise from Isaacs beer emporium on the Neptune side with the occassional live band.
 
Now down on the boat getting sorted out.
Just had a call from my crew.
Can't make it got to go to Wales to see ill grandchild.

I am having the same trouble as Bernie /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Single handed weekend again.
