Well, the RYA spokesman had some useful things to say but the production was truly awful. Presenters reading their questions (badly) from scripts does nothing to enhance the IPC titles. It just looked like Toy Town TV.
I was quoted as asking a question I didnt actually ask. In fact I didnt really understand that question, anyway. I did ask something similar and I think they bundled it with others and put my name to it.
Slightly miffed![]()
I couldn't hear his answers at all, so gave up.
I don't understand how an organisation like IPC can produce such poor quality video. OK I know they are print publishers and may know nothing of TV or video but surely they could hire in a producer/director who could at least make a professional looking video. This amateur rubbish does them no favours - they'd be better off sticking to printing magazines.
Not only did the presenters have to read their pre-prepared questions (written in stilted language better suited to print than broadcast media) but the director chose to show a CU of them reading the script. Either he or she was being cruel exposing the lack of experience of the questioners or it was just gross inexperience. It made the presenters look daft - as if they'd hadn't the wit to form their own questions but had to read what they'd been given.
Sound quality was awful too and that stick mic went out with the ark..has IPC not heard of personals?
What's really frustrating is that it could be so much better and would not cost a fortune but if this is the best they can do they'd be better off concentrating on print publishing and leaving video to the pros.
I've got no problem with the televisual production quality - yes, it's awful, but this was only ever intended as information, not entertainment.

Hi
I don't know the ins and outs of this but I am not 100% sure IPC controlled this?
The majority of our on-line video is either done by the photographer with sound added afterwards (boat report etc) or they have personal s so I am not sure why they do not have them here. Perhaps they were invited down to ask the questions?
Will get back to you but if you look at the majority of our other stuff (each brand site) you will see its put together with a reasonable amount of professionalism given the tools we have!
