IP54 Nav Lights!

Unbelievably nav lights from one big name supplier seem to be rated as IP54. That must be chocolate teapot territory.
 
You can uprate them by putting a bead of silicone (or other) sealant round the lens. You'll be sorry when you need to change the bulb though!

If you do that, the flame will go out!

I'm reminded of my mate's first company car, after it had been washed, we noticed the tail lights had filled with water. It was only noticeable when one side started to leak outwards.
 
I retrieved an Aqua Signal tri and anchor light from a top of a Southerly about 6 weeks ago that resembled a fish bowl..... the owner had sealed the bottom and water had been leaking in the top. Only noticed when it broke off and hung by the cable as it was too heavy!
