So, I'm now the owner of a 500W Purewatts inverter. I'l like to wire this up 'permenantly' so that I can switch the boat's AC sockets from shore power to inverter supply. No problem with that as there are plenty of AC selector switches out there. However, what I'd like is for the inverter DC supply to be switched along with the AC selection (as the inverter has a ~200ma zero load draw). Can anyone suggest a suitable switch

Alternatively I have a spare switch on the Blue Sea distribution panel which I could wire up to a remote switch (relay) - again recs for a suitable relay would be useful. I guess the inverter could be drawing 40 amps continuous and nearly double that under surge load conditions.

Cheers

500w for an inverter doesn't seem an awful lot for domestic AC. What sort of loads and usage are you expecting ?

The proper switch is interlocked on the AC side, mutually exclusive, with a standard high current DC trip on the existing ships panel. Some LEDs are helpful as well.

I used a battery isolation switch for the inverter 12volts,thats why I used a battery isolation switch. I also used a on/off/on double pole switch to switch the 240volt for 3 table lamps( energy saver bulbs) either to work off inverter or mains by using the centre off switch.I also have one socket for phone charging ,TV etc. Didnt think it was a good idea to put all sockets available to the inverter, could easy knacker it.You need a good 12v. isolator switch because of the current on full load,50amps in your case and a fuse.
