Inverness Cathedral, Scottish Highlands > WHITE ENSIGN ??

I attended Inverness Cathedral, at the weekend and was astounded to see almost nothing but a
WHITE ENSIGN flying aloft.

My small vessel is berthed in Inverness Harbour but there would seem to be no connection between Inverness and the se ... Royal Navy.

Some said the ensign is taken every year to the Cenotaph at Whitehall. I have my doubts.

Any ideas info welcome ...........

THE WHITE ENSIGN
formerly flown at THE CENOTAPH WHITEHALL was gifted by the Trustees of the Imperial War Museum to the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew ... Inverness 1963

Situated within St Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral Inverness.

St Andrew’s Chapel

At the front of the ‘south’ aisle is the Chapel of St Andrew (13)#, created as a memorial to the wife of Bishop George Sessford. The windows in this aisle tell the story of the early life of Jesus from the Annunciation to His work in Nazareth at the carpenter’s bench. The white ensign (the flag of the Royal navy) hangs here for safe-keeping after use on the Cenotaph in London.
