HI Everyone, We would like to introduce ourselves. We are Ian and Chrissy from the UK, we are selling up to become liveaboards on the high seas (med 1st caribbean 2nd). We are taking our RYA DS and CS. We are so looking forward to meeting some of you guys who we have read about. We are going to need loads of help and advice so bear with with us with our stupid Questions, for eg.. is it lucky or unlucky to rename a Yacht?. Ian is a Car sales Manager known as rustbucket and Chrissy is a Bulshy leggy blonde with nursing capabilitites. We are hoping to come out to Lefkas in late August early September any ideas on reasonable accommodation while we look for our Yacht,(any heplful pointers would be much appreciated).We so look forward to hearing from you all.
The saying 'poorbuthappy' does anyone out there know the Irish translation.
Ian and Chrissy

Re: pronunciation

Welcome to the forum and the life.
Not unlucky if you follow the correct procedures, which consist of a fair amount of hilarity, inbibing vast quantities of booze and a vicar (or close as you can get). More fun than anything, but a serious matter!!

Re: pronunciation

Hi, the saying 'poorbuthappy' means so much to us that we would like to rename our yacht with it, if we can???.My dear late Father would say it to everybody when he meet them for the first time, so it just stuck i suppose. i find myself saying it sometimes.

Thank you

Chrissy and Ian X

Re: pronunciation

Hi and welcome, we are new to the liveaboard dream also(10 months now) and renewed the name of our boat without any worries at all, and this is the second time. If it makes you happy, just do it.

I think it should be sasta, not sasuil - but I was not sure enough so I looked it up. I think Irish words ending in UIL correspond with english words ending in ING rather than ED. (Boy am I way out of my depth).

I am thinking of the distinction between "you are satisfying" and "you are satisfied"

TRANSLATION:
sásúil = adj adequate
sásúil = adj gratifying
sásúil = pleasing
sásúil = adj rewarding
sásúil = adj satisfactory
sásúil = adj satisfying

TRANSLATION:
sásta = adj contented
sásta = adj contented
sásta = glad

Hi Ian and Chrissy , there is lots of places to stay in Lefkas including a nice hotel on Lefkas Marina .Not sure of availabilty in August as Italians tend to come en-masse at this time .Lots of signs up advertising rooms to let all over the place so I dont think it will be any problem finding somewhere .Same applies further up in Nidri which also has four or five boatyards as well .What kind of livaboard yacht are you considering ?

I cheated - and went for www.englishirishdictionary.com and used the forums. So now I can't look clever - damn!

Don't wish to restart "what's worst about being a liveaboard",
But under the stars on deck may involve mosquito nets, vast quantities of insect repellent.....Try replacing the Chanel n° 5 with Deet, and see how romantic that feels!
On reflexion, Chanel n° 5 is so ghastly, maybe more effective than Deet
