Latest technology has, sadly, passed me by!!
We have a laptop with wifi capability, we want to use it in France ( on board but also on land in our camper) Mainly for emails but also use of the internet.
We can log in using (for eg) the MacDonald site when we are in their car park.
Can we get this same access in france or do we need to buy some extras??
Thanks guys.

It will work fine at McDonalds, and other cafes and hotels where you get wifi for the price of a drink, or free.

On board, down below, unless the marina, (or whatever), wifi has a very strong signal, you will need something like a USB adapter with a cable long enough to get the adapter and aerial on deck:

e.g.

You may even need to go as far as attaching a wire to aerial connector of the adapter, and get an aerial up the mast.

After sorting this lot out... you may be tempted down the route of 3G Mobile broadband, although PAYG provision is poor in France.
