Does anyone know of a good cheap service provider for internet and email via a laptop and mobile phone for coverage in the eastern med? Or a good system that will work, I am based in Corfu at present.

Have a look at 'Cruising in European Waters' on my website - link below.

I would suggest you consider a local SIM Card (Telestet in Greece and TurkCell in Turkey have both been used successfully by fellow CA members) coupled with an ISP that has access points in both Greece and Turkey. You will then only be paying for an in-country call on a local phone i.e. you will not be roaming.

The easiest ISP to use is good old Connie at AOL. However, she is not to everyone's liking. CompuServe (same company) and ATTGlobal.net also provide overseas numbers but, being business orientated, they are expensive.

An alternative is to use one of several companies that provide numbers abroad on a pay-as-you-use per minute basis. Have a look at Tempest Telecom

Tony,
Most of the popular holiday spots in Greece have Internet Cafes (sometimes just a single computer in a taverna). In the bit of Turkey that I'm familiar with, there are ones in Marmaris, Gocek, Fethiye, Kas, Finike, Kemer and Antalya.
Regards,

Henry

Medman,
excellent website!
Does the book include photos as well? If so, I'll have to get it to keep the inspiration going until we can get over there!

It does, though unfortunately all in black and white.

I use an Inmarsat BGAN terminal get 144Kb both ways
its the size of a Laptop lid opens up and you then point at the Sat
costs £27 per month line charge $10 per 1Mb of transfer
You are not charged for the time on line so we find it very convenient
If you use a Voice over IP connecting like DialpadChameleon for instance you can even make phone calls over it.

Alternativly if you are a very heavy user a VSAT may be of more use
