Another post regarding white spitits and lnternational thinners:
I have read a few posts on here regarding International Paint thinners no 1, and white spirits, the general opinion seems to be that they are very similar. Has anyone used white spirit successfully in International paints. International also recommend no 1 thinners for degreasing oily wood, lf they are similar could white spirits be used instead, or should l use acetone. I resent having to pay International prices, when an equivalent and cheaper product would do the same job.

We all resent paying high prices for things like thinner but, as you haven't mentioned which of the International paints you are talking about, it is anyone's guess.

I always use white spirit. Never had any problem with it. The very first tin of International thinner no1 I ever had came with the paint pack for the Mirror dinghy it was labelled with White Spriit in brackets as well as the International designation

Dont use acetone as the paint thinner but it may be Ok for degreasing oily wood if you need something to evaporate quickly. In warm weather than might be a disadvantage though.

If thinner no1 is not the appropriate thinner for the paint you are using then use the one that is , not white spirit.

Doh, thank you for pointing that out, Pre-kote and Toplac. I saw b&q were doing 4 liters of white spirits for £8.00, and thought if it's the same thing, why not. l understand that different paints need different chemicals to thin them, but as we all know most companies use the same product and just label them differently.
