Part way through an extended project. Acres of mahogany varnishwork on 70 year old Broads sailing cruiser. All the mahogany has been religiously stained with Interstain Mahogany ... which apparently cannot now be sold in the UK as it fails to comply with Elfin Safety. The sensible Swedes however can and do still sell it - manufactured in the UK of course. I could use about three or four cans of Interstain mahogany - anyone drive to Sweden regularly and might be prepared to bring some back for me? They won't let you post it and it can't travel on an aeroplane. Grateful for any ideas! OF

I thought I'd stick another posting on this thread to bring it back to the top - my urgency in needing to get hold of this stuff is increasing every day! OF

You might try posting on Scuttlebutt with a wider audience - and head it "Anybody driving from Sweden to UK". Might get a response that way!

How about using another make of stain, eg colron. They do loads of colours. If you have seen the colour of interstain you will know the colour you are looking for. Its only a pigment in a spirit carrier, you just need the right pigment!

I understand that ... but I really don't want to waste the time experimenting with different colours. It could take weeks by the time it's all dried and had a couple of coats of varnish. Interstain was a lovely shade - I think I've either got to strip back the dozen coats on the first half and start again or find a source and continue with the same. I have spoken with International who did everything except supply their product! I did however learn that they still supply Interstain to the Netherlands - which is considerably easier. IJmuiden is closer than London to Gorleston.

Delighted to advise that I located a single 375ml can on a shelf in Rhyll yesterday - which is at least progress. Thank you for kind thought. OF

Thanks to a kindly PM I was able to order as much Interstain Mahogany as I needed today!

Just in case anyone else finds themselves in the same boote. Does seem a little silly to have to re-import from the Baltic. It must be feasible for International to find a single on-line stockist?
