Hello
Simple question. I'm cleaning the inside of a contessa 26, and there are areas where the white coating which covers the hull fibre glass is flaking a bit. The flakes feel quite plastic. Does anyone know what this is and if I can buy it? thanks.

thanks for reply. Do you mean house floor paint or bilge paint. Sorry if it seems a stupid question, but I'm quite new to boat renovation. Thanks.

The stuff that has flaked off could be flow coat, which is basically gelcoat thinned down with resin and some wax in styrene added. It is toshed over the inside of the moulding to seal the layup from bilge water. You could get some more, but, as people have said, bilge paint (spelled g.a.r.a.g.e floor paint by the sensible) is easier.

Generally marketed as garage floor paint.

Bilge paint- expensive
garage floor paint-cheap
