Internal fibreglass damage?

This follows from a post yesterday. I used a wirebrush internally underneath the engine housing....to clean it.

Would really appreciate more info on the (potential) damage to the fibreglass. I don't think there are any exposed fibres. But then, not thinking there was a problem, I wasn't looking for it.

To be on the safe side, what would you do to protect it?

I don't think you'll have damaged the fibreglass much, more that the wire brush will leave little bits of steel embedded in the fibreglass which will rust and make lots of little speckled rust marks.... nothing to worry about, but unsightly...... although hardly a problem in that area of the boat...

I would say that a coat of epoxy would make matters worse (that is assuming there is a problem anyway, which is unlikely).

Almost certainly an area like this one would be difficult to get at and heavily contaminated with all the usual crud and oil.

Unless it actually catches and holds water I would forget it.

All best Nick
