Hi there, I've ripped out everything in my recently purchased shetland 535. I'm just starting out but wanted a fresh interior. I have foam from a sofabed for cushions but since I ripped the previous carpet off and cleaned everything I'd like to re-upholster the inside as wife and new baby will be spending weekends etc... sleeping over. Although I've never done anything like this before what is the best way to do this and with what. Also two window seals are looking worst for wear. Thinking about new windows and pop-riveting them? Or just buy new seals?

thanks

sort the windows and all the other "little" things out first, then you might want to put the lining back.
then again if you leave it bare / a blokes boat, you may get some peace!

Simon

p.s. glad i was not up at 4 am, been there done that

Hello, The first thing I would do is to sort out the window seals to make the boat water tight. Don't pop rivet them buy new seals it will be a far nicer finished job. You could consider lining the cabin sides with carpet of your chosing. carpet is fairly cheap and a good adheasive is all you need.

Look for your window seal profile here there is a massive choice and you surely must find it.

Window seals (if extruded type) can be got from http://www.wilks.co.uk. Carpet and foam-backed-vinyl can be sourced from lots of car or marine trimming firms and is just attached with spray contact adhesive. Will make the boat feel like new if you do all this.

suggest you do a search on headlinings, as there has been a lot of discussion on them. Personally I re-did mine with a felt backed carpet from carpet right. You need to use a decent adhesive from a specialist supplier rather than any old can of spray adhesive, and better to use it from a can against the GRP.

Hi and welcome,
Just doing similar to my boat. Had riveted perspex but have bought portholes to suit because they look awful and craze too easily, stick with the rubber better chance of waterproofing. Am fitting special carpet type material to sides of hull alongside bunks in forward cabin. Finally decided they would be maintainance free, help insulate from hot and cold, in matching colour, easy to fit (glue), soft to bump against (baby), fairly cheap, fitted in no time at all.
Good luck
