Interesting reading - Kim Holman story

Thanks for the link, very interesting.
I find very often, that when I see a boat I admire, I later find out it's a Holman design.
He attended a rally at the Stella 40th anniversary bash in Burnham [1998?], probably his last time aboard one.

Funny thing is, I have a Holman/Pye design ''ah classic Holman that....'' , yet thems wot know ( or claim to) suggest Kim had very little to do with the R36 though it bears all the distinctive hallmarks of the mans Twister heritage and eye for a good line both on paper and out on the oggin and tht clever pushing the line to achieve seemingly conflicting virtues..
Any ways ta for linky

This is very close to the Hustler 35, that Kim owned

I was always told that when Rustler wanted a 36, Holman put the Twister plans on the office photocopier, punched in a 28% enlargement, and put the result in the post!

Ha ha, I like it!

Must've been one of them rental copiers then 'cos I make it a bit less than 36 feet . ( And so do marinas )

Classic Boat emailed me with a subscription offer. Amongst the links was a nice potted history of Kim Holman - one of the best British yacht designers of the last half of the 20th century. Worth bookmarking for a read during the holiday period.

Thanks - suitably bookmarked.

I thought you had turned away from the true faith :)

Looking at the boats he designed I didn't realise he had kept going so long - I wonder if the newer designs share the same characteristics as the "Classics"

I was fortunate to have a chat with Kim one Saturday afternoon in the Haven Ports YC, he said he almost had a mental break down, just couldnt think of anything new. i think Don Pye saved the day really. Im not sure when David Cooper joined the firm, he designed the 37
