I was at a marine upholsterers today, and they showed me this new stuff, which they've used on a couple of boats now.

Spradling Silvertex

I wouldn't quite agree with the manufacturer that it's indistinguishable from fabric, but I would certainly agree that it has a very good feel and appearance for a vinyl. I'd still choose Sunbrella, cos it's warmer and it's real fabric, but if anyone wanted to recover their exterior cushions, and didn't want the extra hassle of looking after Sunbrella, it's definitely worth a look.

Nick, is it a sort of vinyl, embossed to feel like fabric but not actually fabric? So better suited for getting thoroughly wet a lot?

If so I'd like to try some - I want to have the tender reupholstered becuase the walker bay OEM stuff is a bit nasty, and this looks good. Who is the UK stockist? Loui the man?

Yes, exactly, a vinyl made to feel like a fabric, but better imitation than any i've previously seen. Don't know about UK stockist, but Loui has a roll in stock, so he could send you some, I think he owes you!

Thanks Nick

Sorry for more questions... do you know what colour he has in stock? I want "champagne", sort of the sand-beige colour on the Sq flybridges. Or a darkish grey. Did you see if he had those sorts of colours in stock? I'd only need 3metres or so for my job, so he might be reluctant to order a massive roll from USA

Erk, sorry, I can't fathom that code number. All the silvertex swatches on the website are STX-1234 format :-/ If it was STX-8808 I'd happily buy 3m off him.

Ooh yes, table. I'd forgotten till the other day when i saw them. They're all happy and safe, indoors, no rush. Check my post on the Flybr helm seats thread
