This turned up for the Plymouth Classic Boat Rally at the weekend.
40 foot, 40 knots, stepped hull and built in......

1916

A WW1 torpedo boat that was remotely controlled by an aircraft, basically a drone. It sunk a German destroyer in 1917.
It fired the torpedo off the stern because it might overtake it if launched forwards.
Amazing piece of kit for 1916.

If it's still there this afternoon I'll try and get some internal shots, if the owner's around.

On the main 'mast' is her type number DCB1 (Distance Control Boat 1) (although a fussy 'Bunts' would want an answering pennant at top of the hoist ;) )and on the bridge, it looks like Y M O U 3 - but a bit doubtful.

If you are concerned about the England flag near the stern....

Apparently owned by a marine surveyor named Morley. Currently engined by two Leyland 400 diesels from 1950s. What an exciting craft.

Uh-oh! Does that mean a maximum of one working at a time and only occasionally then?

Great bit of history and well spotted Adey...
