Well I have to say I am EXTREMELY disappointed by the level of intellectual debate on the most important economic issues affecting EC boating fraternities at this time.

Firstly , I must, in the best traditions of this democratic system of ours , honourably concede defeat on the Recount to BYRON on the successful conclusion of his 'Campaign' vs My 'Alternative campaign' ---both posted yesterday as I recall.

I know you will all be fascinated that after numerous recounts that Byron won by a masive 4 votes to 2. But what was at issue I hear you ask...? Well Byron campaigned for doubling VAT on purchase of all new boats while I ran mine on zero VAT on all nautical products .

SO what's my point? My points are as follows:

1) There have been more posts about Harry the donkey than on these issues of vital national importance and that includes someone who posted me but was looking for the way to the loo

2) Where else apart from Britain would the voters vote for style before substance.. that's how you got BLARE in the first place

3) If we hadn't got BLARE then Mad Pinko Ken wouldn't have been up for the fight and we'd have had good honest Geoff instead..

3) QED ... it's the fault of us lot that we have got holes in the road all over London ... and they REALLY HACK ME OFF

New Name Needed..........

Seconds out...Round Two/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
Well Learner, if you think a diversionary tactic llike this is going to stop us slagging you off for not having got a boat yet....think again my friend.
I have been biding my time but feel NOW is the right moment to draw peeps attention t o a couple of glaring anomalies in the whole 'Learnerboutbuyingaboat' fisaco (or 'How Not To Go About Buying A Boat' - see the January issue of Prevarication International magazine).

Fistly, just take a look at this man's profile....I quote: dreaming about a boat , any boat will do when you're as desperate as me...
He first appeared here in August last year and has now posted no less than 773 times (and no doubt rising) but ....still no boat.

Secondly, he has styled himself 'Learner' and frequently pleads ignorance of all things nautical yet......he has had a boat before!!! and furthermore is described in another place as 'a qualified motor yachtsman' ..........

I am therefore launching acampaign to lobby Kimatollah for the immediate withdrawal of his rights to the handle 'Learner' and hereby seek the views of all here as to a suitable replacement handle to be imposed until he is able to present indisputable proof that he has finally bought a boat ......

I'm not who I'd like to be.....

Gerroff Me handle !!

I think the ONLY reason that I could have that handle removed was if I were MISPREPRESENTING myself...and I'm NOT.

Yes ,
1) I confess to having owned a boat or two in my distant past...but blasting around skiing with my Uncle is hardly trans-atlantic challenge....
2) Yes I have got RYA quali-thingies Practical and Theory ( and more under way)...but then you all could have worked that out as you know I have hired in France and you need ICC minimum for that ...and as everyone says here that's just the theory.... and they're RIGHT!
3) I really have ZERO real experience ( and if B! you'd be so kind to cut and crop couple more fotos like yesterday , I'll post the proof.) and
4) As I posted Lanaison t'other day...i still learn from all boaty posts
5) Comapred to you guys...yes I am still Learning...700 rude posty-comments don't make instant experts !!

Case for the Defense Rests............................KIM, they're picking on me.

Wasn't really meant as sneak attack on Learner. P'rhaps could have said it better.

It might be the nautical equivalent of a Handbrake Turn. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Well come on then....gimme names.....

Went to bed last night feeling rather subdued as paucity of replies to this thread left me wondering if I'd been just a tad OTT in yet again addressing this thorny issue. Woke at around 2am and again at 4am with worry and vowed if no activity by this morning I might even be forced to back off or even ask Kimatollah to pull the thread in the interests of maintaining my extremely commendable record of even handedness.....

Somewhat reilieved to find, therefore, that during the hours of darkness a few more of you crept out of the foc'sle and lent a little support to the campaign.

BUT, so far, no offers of an alternative username for our deprived friend....how about one of the following:

NoBoater
FloatingBoater (I can sell him a web adress to go with that one)
Excelachat.......
or have you a better idea?

I'd rather be me than him.....

For the Record

IF............I ever get a boat, it's gonna be called VSS, which will then become me handle hereabouts....cos SWMBO doesn't want it named after her..and you'll never guess what it stands for so don't bother guessing apart from TCM cos I might have confided in him and I'm not telling you !!!

Wots the point in that.??

Everytime someone asks you what VSS stands for you're gonna say 'I'm not telling' well that won't wash around here Sonny Jim...... I think you owe it to us all to tell us.......or we're gonna make up our own tla for your imaginary boat.

VSS - very sexy sunseeker, very sad sexseeker, verucous sillious sodus.......

yada yada..
