Today I completed the install of my integrated Engine sea water flow and exhaust temperature monitoring system,

The set up consists of a Silicone SM007-D dual marine engine exhaust temperature monitoring and alarm unit, paired up with twin Aqualarm water flow switches connected to a group of two flow warning lamps and an alarm lamp should either have the flow stop. The flow lamps illuminate when flow is present, so the alar sounds if either flow stops, and the individual flow lamp goes out.

Power to both is provided from the Stbd Engine MCB, via a 2amp line MCB and Off / On switch, with an additional switch to silence the alarm.

The whole set up has cost me ~ £300, which is a lot lot less than re-building the engine on my last boat cost.

The displays were engraved by an EBAY seller, and were made to match existing redundant instrument apertures.Flow panel.jpgIMG_0151.jpegIMG_0152.jpegIMG_0159.jpeg

Good job!?

I installed the Silicon system after hearing your pan-pan and subsequent write up on here but haven’t gone for the flow sensors - they might be an option in future. I took power from an electronics circuit (depth sounder/log) as I always have them on when we go out but I can see the sense of taking it from an engine.

As an aside I had a problem with the Silicon display unit and it was a month or two outside warranty. Lovely chap I spoke to with a view to getting it repaired or buying a new one said he rarely had problems with them and asked me to send it to them. He confirmed it was kaput and supplied a replacement FOC. Top service!

I did buy the Aqualarm combined display panel to use with a separate temperature controller, but the panel was cheap tat compared with the Silicone unit.

If anyone would like it happy to give it away for a donation to the nearest lifeboat tin.
