My cert is on the boat and I can't get there for a few days so can someone confirm that although issued as a result of my yachting experience, the cert is would cover me if I swapped to a motor boat? Also as I understand things, it covers me while at 'sea' and not inland waters; where is the line drawn on a large open mouthed estuary navigable for some 50 kms inland, up to a fixed hydro dam. Many tks.
 
your icc should cover you for motor boats up to 10 metres as well as sail up to 24 metres.
not sure about your second question but would probably be valid to at least the point where the tide ceased to have an effect. the expression used is " coastal waters ".
 
Providing it is tidal water and the official is not feeling too grumpy, you should be able to blag your way clear if challenged. On the other hand, why not spend an evening with the CEVNI handbook, spend another 10 minutes sitting the written multiple-choice exam, and make yourself legal for all European inland waterways?
 
That's interesting. I didn't know that the RYA Coastal Skipper course had a seaman ship paper. It has a meteorology paper, an IRPCS paper and a navigation paper. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Depends upon which RYA Certificate you hold.

If your RYA certificate is for 'sail', then your ICC will be 'sail only'.

RYA Certificates gained prior to (I think Jan 2003), will allow vessels up to 24 metre/80 GT (sail or power).

After that date, the power endorsement was capped at 10 metre, if gained on a 'basic' certificate.

UK issued ICC's are only valid on British flagged vessels, used for 'pleasure' purposes.
They are issued for Coastal Waters, with a CEVNI required for Inland Waters.
