I have just received this years quotation from Haven £626 for a yacht valued at £60000
I only have three years NCB as I had a very large claim with St Margarets which was close to a total loss.

also reading the policy it seems that there are more exclusion than ever, it looks like it covers very little.
Because of the way St Margarets dealt with me in the past I have remained loyal to them Haven has taken over St M`s. what do you think?

cheers bobt

I think the only relevance "loyalty" has to insurance companies is that it lets them charge existing customers more. Sadly the days of the caring bank-manager type in a bowler hat are long gone.

Shop around for the cover that suits you at the best price.

Just had my renewal in for similar value £300 with Bluefin. However, when the same boat was in the Med it was just over £400. So yours sounds expensive. I got about 5 quotes last year and only one was slightly less than Bluefin.

We are with Pantaenius, and although not the cheapest, there are fewer restrictions. For example we are covered from UK through most of the Med. on the basic policy. Our premium is about the same as OP's, although boat (insured)value much higher.

Cheers,

Michael.

+1

I insure with Traffords. Premium is very significantly less for slightly higher value.

Shop around each year.

Are you on commission? Just taken out policy with Y Yacht, £491 for 125K value "All Risks". Was with GJW, but a higher premium renewal, apparently lower risk cover, (GJW confirmed that "Sinking" was not an insured risk?) I decided to go with Barrie, a pleasure to deal with.

all on the recommendation of "Phoenix of Hamble" who spotted those exclusions.
You only know what company is like when you claim.

Seems high to me - GJW have quoted about £450 on a boat valued at £87,000 and Y have come in at about £350. We have four years NCB.

Also with Pantaenius. Really happy with them. Good price. Very few exclusions. A cruising area that is very generous and great when you need to talk to them. Two thumbs up!

Phone up Haven and point out the rate is high - I had a whinge and they reduced premium one heck of a lot. It may be that you have a St Margarets policy which has one or two things not in the Haven policy and they just add a vast amount as it's not standard.

Worth a phone call anyway.

I have done on Friday afternoon managed to talk to two different receptionists who got thing into a muddle talking to an underwriter why i could not speak directly I dont know.

In the end I gave up with them ,I did talk to Barrie at Y he seemed helpful, but wanted a full survey before taking on the business in fact reticent on treading on Haven toes?
