I am due to renew my sailing yacht insurance (for a Sweden Yacht 45) and I'm unhappy to find that extending the sailing area to include west coast of France to La Rochelle (previous limit Brest) causes an increase in the premium, despite the excess increasing from £1,000 to £1,500, and then even more unhappy that premium increases further if sailing area is extended to Mediterranean (up to 15 deg E). Overall a £700 increase. I'd hoped the risks sailing in the Med might have been less than the tides and heavy traffic of the Channel! I have received several quotes from Pantaenius, Craft Insure and Bishop Skinner and there is a very wide range of costs - up to £1,000 difference between high and low. Has anyone any experience of these companies? Any comments on increase in costs for Med? Welcome feedback. Thanks. Liverpool.

Try Navigators and General, Not sure what they will do - I know there is an extra charge for crossing the biscay, but I don't think last year they were going to chrge more for the Med.

If your boat is over 10 years old, I think their contract is very good.

The higher costs for the Med are not directly related to any increase in risk but to the potentially higher costs of dealing with claims. Not just the cost of the actual claim- generally repair labour costs are higher than UK, but the cost that comes from having less control. Also remember that the £ has dropped by 25% against the Euro so insured values should be higher.

I pay £420 for Bavaria 37 £55k with Bishop Skinner. Premium goes up directly in line with insured value as 3rd party risk is very low.

Hope this helps.

Avoid N&G at all costs!!! Had very bad experience with them which has been ongoing for a long time. I would rather insure my boat with the Taleban than with them!!

As I am insured with them, and have made a small claim - settled within 3 days, I would like to know about the problem you have had. To me their policy wording is potentially the best of the lot...... but as you say, it is when the big one occurs that the chips are down. Perhaps if you don't want to talk ker in public, you copuld PM me?

Insurance - N&G

Avoid N&G at all costs!!!
My experience of N&G is exactly the opposite. I have had no bad experiences at all with them. I have insured with them for almost 15 years. They were helpful when I made a claim within 7 days of buying a new boat and always quick and courteous. From looking at other quotes they offer the best prices for a good cover. Give them a try!

I have no connection with this company other than as a very satisfied customer.
