Hi, just recieved my renewal quote from Nautical Insurance Services. They say that in view of the current economic climate they have included a quote from Navigators & General. The quote is substantially lower, the other being from Lloyds per Amlin, but the cover seems to be the same!Anyone recommend N&G or had any dealings with them?

Part of Zurich, they refused to honour their obligations when my mast fatigue-fractured, using a very doubtful report from Their Surveyor and lots of small print references.

In fact they may have had a point, the mast was too slender a section for the boat, as proved by getting the section requirements re-calculated by the mast manufacturer from the base data.

My broker, subsequently moved his book to G&W, who have been exemplary in their conduct.

Navigators & General are the 'recommended' insurer for the Westerly Owners Association so they must be doing something good! Several reports in the WOA news magazines of good treatment when a claim is made.
Having said that, N&G wouldn't insure me because of location (Thames Estuary, north side, west of Southend Pier) but Polestar, who have now been taken over/merged with GJW, would insure me as they were a local firm at Leigh-on-Sea and knew the locality. It would seem that you need to speak to other local craft owners and see who they are insured with.
I wonder if Charles' G&W was a mis-type for GJW?

I have nothing but praise for Bishop Skinner whose premium is reasonable, cover extensive and handling of claims excellent.
By comparison St Margarets were a no-no.

I have been with N&G for many years, and have always had excellent service. I have had 3 claims on 2 different boats all of which were the other parties fault. In each case N&G authorised repairs and paid promptly, fought my corner with the other lot and recovered my excess from them.

Can't ask for better.

Similar for me. N&G insured our Wayfarer for a number of years via the Owners Association, then wouldn't cover me on the Griffon. Firstly they wanted me to pass Coastal Skipper before cover would start, then they back tracked and said Powerboat Level 2 (!!) would do instead, but they wouldn't cover the mooring at Findhorn for more than 5 months in the year in any case.

I also went to Pole Star.

Basically, you need an auto insurance to protect you from losses, which you may incur due to an unforeseen accident involving your car. Take the following example: You are driving along one of the roads in Calgary and suddenly you or a motorist near you inadvertently causes a collision that includes your vehicle. Your auto insurance will entitle you to an amount of compensation for the cost of repairing your car and for your medical treatment if you become injured. This is especially useful during a time wherein you do not have enough funds to pay for the ensuing expenses.
