Spent all day Thursday in 40 Knots fending the boat off !!
Today, managed to move the boat to a position I am content with, 60 Knots are due on Sunday !!!
Last night I spent hours reading my insurance policy !!
I bought the boat in Gosport in October, it is now in Derry, Northern Ireland, 22 Miles from the North Atlantic.
These threads on insurance are making me feel very vunerable !!!

I am complying !!

Do you think they would pay up if the worst hapenned ???

Most insurance policies give you an area in which you are covered to sail or keep your boat the type of mooring or berth and the afloat season that is cover by the policy. You will need to read the small print but if you are in UK waters I would imagine you are covered but check anyaway. Phone your insurance company if it does not state this and get a definate answer in writing.

One policy I didn't sign up for limited the boat to European waters no further east than the Elbe or further west than Brest - rather ruled out the west coast of Scotland and all of Ireland.

Are you sure about that? They tend to run Brest to Elbe, but that doesn't mean no further West than the longitude of Brest; it means you're not allowed to turn the corner into Biscay.

The rather confusing wording on mine says "inland and coastal waters of the continent of Europe (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) between the River Elbe and the Port of Brest but in no circumstances south of 46 degrees north or east of 10 degrees east". Which I reckon includes Bergen...

Of course they will pay up if you have done your bit. Insurance companies that dont pay dont survive in business , any more than a bank which took your money and wouldnt give it back.

Almost invariably the stories you hear where people are having trouble is when they are either pushing the limits or have done something that makes the company sustpect they are. How many people do you know whio have made a fraudulent claim on one insurance or anoither?
