Insurance Surveys

Much has been posted on surveys but a search has not come up with my quandary. My insurance company has asked me for a survey before renewing my insurance - first for six years. I phoned a few surveyors. I was surprised at the prices quoted (£300 plus). I asked why so expensive and was told that Insurance companies wanted the full Monty now (they would, wouldn't they(the surveyors, I mean)). I phoned my insurance company and asked exactly what they required. The answer was that they wanted confirmation that a few things that had been picked up at the original purchase survey had been actioned. Phoned some surveyors again and they seem reluctant to do a reduced survey.
has anyone come across this syndrome and solved it? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a surveyor in the S Devon area who might negotiate?

did a purchase survey for me about two years ago. Halfway through the survey he phoned to say that the boat had major problems. Charged only for the work done. he had done. I thought that was pretty reasonable.
