Its time to renew our insurance again, and I requested a number of the usual UK players to quote.

The quotes received were all more or less in the same ball park, although that received from Traffords (for Lloyds cover) was the most attractive.

Does anyone have any experience of Traffords ? Any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I've been using them for the last 5 - 6 years. They seem OK to talk to and are willing to add/change conditions etc without quibble. My premium has only changed by about £5 over that period (full no claims since start). Never had to claim so can't speak for that aspect. Haven't found any bad reviews despite extensive googling.

My renewal is due with Haven - my boat is out of commission on shore for this season.

The quote is £130, compared to about £160 in commission; this seems poor value to me and I'm shopping around before challenging Haven about it.

I've used Traffords for 3 years for boat insurance and several years before that for aircraft.
Always found them helpful and competitive, but I've never had to claim, and that's when you find out how good they are!

I had an insurance with Traffords and everything was well until I made a claim; the service was appalling and they left me to deal directly with the insurance company; Traffords were totally uninterested; as a broker I would expect them to have provided a better service. They are cheap enough, but make sure you don't make a claim. For the last few years I have insurance with GJW, great service and they pay out with claims.

A mate, insured with Haven, had a claim last year and the claims adjuster/manager or whatever they call it, was a nightmare never fully resolved. He has moved insurers because of it. Have since found out that several of the Lloyd's insurers use the same people. It stopped me moving to Y.
I'm sure other forumites will leap to Havens defense but I am just telling it as it is.

Haven ins;

Point worth knowing !

I have just spoken to a very nice young lady and after clearing up the odd point have arrived at a premium I'm very happy with.

The point worth knowing being, I queried the apparent lack of cover due to mechanical breakdown and learned that this is not the case, merely poor wording on their paperwork which is being corrected; their M.D. John Macauley apparently mentioned this on these forums but I and obviously others missed it.

So I'm happy to reiterate, Haven DO cover mechanical breakdown.
