Got the renewal in for my boat which I bought last year ( 1982 Tomahawk 25) and was originally scheduled as being kept in the water all year round at Hull Marina.

When I bought the boat it was at Royal Northumberland Yacht Club and I liked the sailing so much there I decided to stay.

Notified the insurers of the change and they are now saying will only insure from March to October but I want to keep it in and use it all year round, weather permitting.

Anybody any recommendations for a friendly insurer?

Many thanks

Andy

Did you ask them why? The moorings are all reasonably sheltered pontoons, aren't they?

We've been with GJW for years. We have wintered afloat in Marinas for all but one when we had her out ashore. More importantly, we have had one claim in this time which was dealt with quickly and efficiently.I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Interestingly I have a friend who's having issues with their relatives MOBO. The engine room fire extinguisher went off and smothered the engine with powder and damaged the engine. The insurers are refusing a pay out due to the fact there was no "fire".

IMHO, the insurers stance isn't unreasonable, as why should they pay out for an 'accidental' extinguisher discharge, as I'm sure the owners insurance policy doesn't cover 'accidental damage', which can be optioned with house/contents insurance.

We have been with Admiral Marine since 2004 when we bought our boat. We had to make a claim last year (accidental grounding leading to lift, remove keel, check, refix keel, return to water), and they were impeccable. Helpful, efficient, and very supportive while we were having a rotten old time. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Best wishes,
RCJH
