There is a current insurance thread on the mobo forum but since I have a 38' AWB and looking for renewal quotes, I thought I'd add them here for comparison. I haven't had a chance to compare the small print/excess etc yet but basically a £130k value AWB moored in a Hamble marina with cruising area UK and near Europe. YM quals, 3 years NCB (15% discount).

Visicover - £396
Craftinsure - £485
GJW - £702
Porthcawl - £739
Haven KJ - £757
Topsail - £779
N&G - £917 (current insurers til June, was £968.49 last year, should have shopped around!)

Edited to add Porthcawl quote.

Fairly sure a few of those are Amlin as underwriter , tho wording and t and c still varies.
I would guess the outliers are someone else.
For me anyway, and I cant remember policy by policy, the policy with CraftInsure was not for me, Porthcawl had one condition I didn't like, Gjw had ramped up the premium and HKJ was the best policy -price.

Does anybody have real world claims experience with Visicover?
By all reports the main insurers are not making huge profits - and that level of price difference in most areas prompts the question " too good to be true".
I don't (but am insured with them). My impression is not necessarily too good to be true (they are underwritten by Allianz so not some unheard of insurer) - but rather that you tweak the policy to suit your actual needs and so save cost. e.g. I dont keep my boat in a marina so the special marina clauses are turned off; I'm not going across the channel so not need to define the area so big (you draw it yourself); most policies allow anyone to use it - but most of us wouldn't let just anyway use our pride and joy, so you can define the minimum qual/experience to use it; cover for dinghies being towed etc was something you can turn on/off; there was cover for courtesy vessels, emergency accom, unused mooring fees, medical expenses, personal accident etc - which I could turn on/off, excessed could be tweaked both for the boat and its tender etc. If you turn everything on and match the terms exactly it probably costs as much as some of the big names. But personally I don't need most of that cover (and I suspect many of us don't) so would be paying for protection I don't value.
