Hi, not sure if anyone can help but.... Boat has been re-engined from petrol to diesel, the insurance company know, but I cannot increase the insured value of the boat without a letter from a surveyor (valuation survey or full survey). Do you think the re-power would make any marked difference to the value of a 1984 Fairline weekend. The boat has a new kad32 and has been fairly seroiusly 'tidied up'. I dont want to fork out hundreds of pounds on a survey if shes only worth a couple of hundred extra. The curent market value for these with a petrol seems to be between 9-12k.

Any comments or experience?

Hi, I have a 1984 Holiday and re-powered 2 years ago, had the same problem with the Insurance company.

Boat was worth around 11.5K, MBM did an article on Red Duster a re-power of an older version, this sold for 18.5K. I supplied this to the insurance company and stated that a surveyor based valuation was an excessive requirement.

They accepted this and increased the value.

Alternatively try supplying broker adverts or getting a broker to give you a letter saying typical price we’d advertise your boat at would be…….

Hope this helps

Peter

yes, i think this is a good approach. Key thing is to have and present a good set of info regarding the boat, market value and so on, being honest about the value of course. Pics of boat, pics of similar boats, maintencne info, owners clubs gvaluations and so on, gettem together to send off and keep a copy too.
