Hi,

I want to be able to get out on the water and rack up some serious miles so I can prepare for my round Britain trip hopefully this summer.

the topic of insurance is worrying though. my dad (who knows nothing about boats and has only been on ferries etc) wants
me to get insurance before he lets me out on the boat solo, he thinks I'm going to run someone over and then we will lose the house when I get sued millions?

firstly, is there a way to some how get third party at 15 so my dad will be at ease, I am doing my intermediate course in under a month if that's worth anything

I am open to any suggestions on how to get round this, is insurance really that important. i don't know alot so am I wrong in presuming it's not important?

if i can't get it i guess i'm to have to make some boating friends that don't mind a free trip out in rough weather i guess...

Also a quick update on the round Britain attempt. Planning is going well, a few sponsers have already been found and a 5.3m sea rider will probably be the boat of choice.

Thanks in advance

Nathan

Think I would start by phoning a few and telling them what you are proposing to do. Tell them what sort of boat you are going to use and how much experience you have. Tell them how many of your friends you hope to take with you ;)

All harbours INSIST that you have insurance incase you hit anything very expensive.

Your friends parents will not be very happy with you if you loose any of them and yes they will come after you for compensation

have you considered the effect of the extra fuel and tanks on the displacement and planing speeds, and thus on the fuel consumption ?

I suspect the insurance company might not like the idea of too much extra fuel, unless you use a passive system such as Explosafe.

unless, of course, you can get an insurance company to (part) sponsor you with cover as a gesture ?

I know the seariders can carry almost stupid amounts of gear, an extra 150kg can't hurt? i only weigh 60.

On a side note, would you recomend phoning or emailing when trying to get sponsored?
