Does anyone have recommendations for insurers for a 16ft day boat used for pleasure fishing on South Coast please.
I have been told as the boat is of unknown age it is presumed to be over 20 years and require a full survey. I have made enquiries and this will cost about £400-£500 ! Ouch... Anyone had a similar problem and found a sensible insurer.

You might give Noble Marine a call as it might classify to them as a sailing dinghy irrespective of the fact it may not be a recognised 'class'. You may then be looking at sub £100.00 or thereabouts.

I have a Hunter 490 (16 foot trailer sailor) insured for coastal waters with Noble Marine for about £90. The boat is of unknown ago, over 20 years, and no survey was required.

i have a a 14ft cruiser i use on coastal waters and rivers. insured fully comp for hull, trailer and 2 engines. the premium was £129 from craftinsure

Noble say they are not able to provide insurance for "Any yacht aged over 20 years old, unless a recent, full survey and valuation report, is available."

Bishop & Skinner (bishopskinner.com) insure my 17 Dockrell in Plymouth for about £75 per year with RYA membership.

I've found them very competent and flexable but never had to claim.
