Insurance costs for a 30 foot yacht?

I thought I had better start another thread as this is a thread drift from my previous one.

So I have 30 footer on a berth mooring, S/H sailing daylight hours, age 41 years old (the boat that is! )with 5 years to run before they want another Survey.
Insured value £26,500. Cruising range Brest to the river Elbe.

So what do you think I should be paying for this insurance.

Would be interested to know what others with similar policies are paying.

I pay about £255 for a 27ft Cat (1975) slightly less insured value, up to 18hrs S/H, club pontoon berth & Brest to Elbe. That is with N&G; 8 yrs since last survey and no indication they want another before 2017 at least. 13 yrs NCB.

I pay a bit over one percent on an total insured value in the £30,000 range. I know I could get it cheaper but I have been with them a long time and I am superstitious.

Only advantages are that I can singlehand, day or night and the cruising range is wider, plus they have not yet asked for a survey.

On this basic I guess your cover might be 150 - 250 quid.

Then figure in the survey cost to the premium
 
31 ft yacht . Unlimited SH Elbe to just south of La Rochelle inc Ireland. No claims protected
value £ 65K when new. Now 12 years old.
Insured with GJW & had 2 claims, One for a new rudder £ 5500-00 & one for catching the side of a 54 ft HR with my anchor & made a 50mm scratch EU 750. In all cases Insurance co were extremely helpful including paying for a trip home in a hire car from Inverness to Essex & back when work done on rudder

Mast & rigging covered for £15K. Various cover for clothing etc & third party claims ie. injury of crew etc

Fee £ 580-00. But if I want racing cover then it is £ 120-00 more which is a step too far for the amount of racing I would do

That seems very expensive. The premium with Y insurance for the same geographic coverage for my new 33' insured value £110000 is £368 all year round in water in commission in a marina.

For the OP would expect yours to be around £275. Note that the idea of a % of value is misleading as a big chunk of the premium is for risks that are not related to the value of the boat. I also have an old boat value £13k where the premium is £175, so 1.3%, but as you can see from the above on my high value boat it is 0.3%. On my last boat which was value £60k the premium was 0.6%.
 
40 foot AWB of 1999 vintage, total sum insured £59K, both owners YM offshore which gives a discount, 6 years continuous insurance on this and other boats with no claims, not sure on single handed limits, cruising limits River Elbe to La Rochelle inc Bay of Biscay, marina pontoon berth, in commission 12 months, premium £257 with Y.

Just to update.

Having got to back GJW, they have made some adjustments and additions.

30 foot yacht 1974, on a pontoon berth mooring, nearly 3 years to run before they want another Survey. Total Insured value £26,500

S/H Night time sailing, but with a 100% increase on excess to £450 during Dusk until Dawn, but with no voyage length limitations in place.

Cruising range UK inland and Coastal Waters, English Channel, Channel Islands, Continental waters, Brest to the river Elbe, whole of Ireland up to 12 miles off shore, and the Irish Sea.
Limited Personal Accident Cover, Legal Protection, (3 Million 1/3rd party cover)
Protected 6 years N/C, and 12 months in commission.
Cost £183, and I can extend cruising limits if needed, but what’s in place at the moment suits my needs at present.

Hope this may be of some interest to others
