I was chatting with the local man from GJW (K C Powell) this morning about the joys or not of mooring in the Thames. He said that they won't insure any boats East of Leigh Sailing Club as the claims have been too high. I know three people that have had their boats come off moorings at Westcliff and the results were not pretty (you can't get under Southend Pier with your mast up!).

It is very re-assuring to be tucked up in a marina when it is blowing a hooley - which seems more frequently than in earlier years.

my dejon is moored off thorpe bay and i had no trouble getting it insured but i was told they wouldnt insure at shoebury east beach as its too deserted and its easy to get a boat out there without being seen.

my Seawolf 26 is also moored at Thorpe Bay and my previous insurer Knox Johnson would not insure me because they reckoned the south easterly winds could cause damage to the keels at low tides.I am now insured with K.c.powell although they will only cover from april to october again because of the prevailing winds. So she spends the winter at Brandy Hole on the crouch.
