A question for the panel ...

If one was sailing past Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth in poor vis or potentially in the dark, would the panel recommend going around the outside of the Cross Sands, taking the Barley Piccle channel or staying inshore up the Roads?

Not an entirely academic question as we may find ourselves doing just that in a fortnight although my plan is to do it in daylight (but the best laid plans and all that ...)

Oh and the contingency of aborting the overnight sail to get well North and ducking into Lowestoft for the night is already in the plan btw ;)

I've never been there but looking at a chart I would go up the Barley Piccle at night in good vis but outside of Cross Sands in poor vis. Actually I'd try to do neither in poor vis on purpose.

Glad to hear the moment of truth is getting near :)

Pretty much confirms what I was thinking - we're only likely to hit that stretch in the dark if we have an astonishingly good run up the Wallet and past Harwich etc., ETA South of Lowestoft is after sunrise a week on Sunday :)

In very poor vis we'd be somewhere else I hope (preferably somewhere else with a pub!)

well, as ever it is very much dependent upon the weather but there are tentative signs that things might just improve

Weather permitting, we've got a whole fortnight to see just how far you can get a 23 foot boat up the East Coast in a week and back again

If you read through this thread, the info further down will be usefull, particularly the info from Andylink.
