Inox screws in aluminum and no electrolysis

My friend thought he would go through hell undertaking the job to undo the aluminum window frames put in place with inox screws on an old (20 years) American 80 footer.
To his amazement every screw slipped out cheerfully but was covered by the most awful material or yyyuck if you like, the kind that produces a real mess or you see in terror movies with UFOs.
But as the material actually did the job, anyone knows what this could be?
 
No idea what material had been used on your friends boat but the usual compound to use between aluminium and stainless steel is a barium chromate paste such as Duralac
 
There is also a range of products (manufactured in New Zealand iirc) called Lanocote. It's greasy (based on lanolin) and can be a bit messy in use, but I have used it everywhere (above and below the waterline) on our all aluminium yacht. Works a treat.
