Inoperative Speedometer help please.

Im away in the morning to the boat to "hopefully" rectify the temp gauge problem and remove the seats for recovering.

As it's a 200 mile round trip I try and get as much done on her as I can. Hence, my constant posting. Sorry.

The Speedo wasn't giving a reading last week when we went out in her. I took the speedo out of the dash a few weeks ago, but I don't know if it was working before this as she is new to me.

Is there an easy way to test the speedo? Could it be something simple due to my removing the speedo (do they need calibrating or anything?)

As always, any help appreciate.

Have a look at the back of it. Some of them use a rubber hose and a little pick up on the transom - they rely on air pressure. If it's one of these, try putting a bit of hose on the back of the speedo and blowing. If you get a reading, the blow down the tube to the transom to make sure it's clear - it may have got blocked by a bit of crap.

How is the the speedo powered ? some were powered by water pressure on a sensor mounted on the transom. Sensor hole blocked, no speedo.

hmmm. That sounds like a distinct possibility. The leg had been Triluxed prior to my getting her and lets just say they didn't bother to mask anything off.

I been reading the Bravo 3 owners manual type thing and it shows a speedo "Pick up" point on the bottom of the leg. I will try checking that first.

other type is a paddle wheel on the transom. If it doesnt spin freely, wrong reading...

I have plenty to have a go at now. The pipe being blocked and needing clearing deffo looks favourite.
