Hi All - relatively new to posting, been lurking a while.

(Flattery mode on) Never ceases to amaze me what knowledge there is out there. I have found loads of good info on navigation through the swellies (lovely bit of water) in particular.

Has anyone knowledge or info on (avoiding the rocks on the entrance) and finding the channel through the inland sea from the Rhosneiger end up to 4 mile bridge.

Have a friend who has a house with slipway onto that bit of wet stuff!!

Thanks!

Ok - so not the most popular topic so far..... How about nice pictures of it? The entrance end:

I know it isn't the most used bit of water so not many have experience there - tis very pretty - but very fast tidal run.

jmt I have that info.
Got to nip out right now.
I will divert to the Boat and pick up Charts and stuff.
Then I can give the Lats and Longs and bearings and where the sticky out bits are.
Etc Etc.
See ,I know all the Sticky out bits round Anglesey.
Like I tell peeps ,think I,ve hit them all at least once /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Back in a bit

Right, here it is.
Get yerself to 53 13 4.2 and 04 33 7.5
Ynys Ferig will bear 200 metres 60 deg.
CTS 023 for 300 metres.
Rock awash 1 metre at l.a.t. port side 205 metres. Wreck starboard side same distance.
This first CTS is critical.
There are lots of sticky out bits all over the place.
at 300 metres. Alter to,
CTS 016. 200 metres
Not so critical basically, aim for the middle at this point.
Then wiggle your way up to Four Mile Bridge it stays wet in there for ages.
Thing is it dries out pretty quick from the crossing just sw of Valley.
Think I worked out 2 hours either side of HW was safest.
Once "IN" there is mostly sand to worry about.
That stuff changes by the Day so no good trying to work any course out there.
Get in on High water.
Then perhaps get in the Dinghy/ Dory/ R.IB or summatt at 1 hour after Low Water and fiddle yerself back to the Wreck / rock area and suss it out.
If its blowing a bit West or S West DON'T bother!!!

Sorry I don't know how much experience you have, maybe You have Glazebrooks Book ref "Cruising Anglesey"?
However there are some Tasty Overfalls right were You want to go.
Off Carreg Goch and Crigyll Bay if You are approaching from Llanddwyn.
Off everywhere if approaching from South Stack!
Both CTS's are Magnetic by the way.

If You have not got The Book get it.
There is a new set of charts out which are real handy.
Admiralty SC 5609 North West Wales. Leisure Folio.
Includes The Straits round to Colwyn Bay/ Rhyl.
Down to Aberystwyth.
Plus across to Irelands East Coast.
Usable size for small boats.
Think they are about £35 .
Invaluable for Our Area.
I,m about to order some more for peeps in the Marina and a couple of the Cruising book.
Gis a shout if yer wants owt.
Oh! the Wreck.
It's at 53 14 2.2 and 04 32.92.
I know cos I hit it once.
Hope this helps.
Der trust Me?

Harrumph! I tried going in there once many years ago. Picked a bad day, SW 4-5. There we were, running dead downwind towards a straight line of surf. I knew there was a channel, but couldn't see it. discretion seemed the better part of valour so I jibed & beat back away from the shore. never made a more sensible decision since & never regretted it. Often thought of going back but current boat draws about 3'6" as opposed to 2'9" and I would want N/E to N/Wly and light winds!

It is said you can do the passage end to end in a canoe, (ie circumnavigating Holy Island) but having seen the water going thro' the sluices, you would need to time it very carefully!

Nice pics Kwaka, I might have known you'd bin there & done that!

Yoh! Searush.
Those piccies are jmt's not mine!
You were right to abort in those conditions.
Jibbin Jyebin , beating, backin? there yer go confusing Me agin.
Why do Raggies do this?
Can,t yer say yer just turned around and went back or summat.
Flip it is confusing.
Yer right however.
Tiss not a place to muck with if it's blowin a bit.
East and South ok but not if there is a bit of West goin on!
The "Round the Island" race during the Menai Straits Regatta week must be a right ball ache for Raggies!
Tide gates, overfalls plus the wind.
Well it,s never in the right direction or the correct velocity for You Raggie types.
So I,m Told! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Getting in may be! getting out could be something else!

I think that we should all go and have a look on Breeza /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Come Kwacker, you've had a go at all our boats this year, it's time to repay the favour. And we dont want any of that rubber lightweight stuff either to go in!

Cheers all for input - particularly detail Kwaka - thanks!

My friends family bought the old fishermans cottages (now one place) right on the end and they have a slip there in the garden into a deep pool.

It's an amazing place to "play" in the water. We have had some of our best days there. Changes so much from high to low water and boy does the water move. I have two areas of focus - one how to get in/out safely as I reccomended his father buy a Drascome which so far we have had out from there once! The second is where the channel is up to the bridge and back (have done it so far on a jet bike, in a dinghy and in a canoe - great fun with the wids!!). Nice for a ski too, but the channel moves and is scary.

Overall a great place for some if you know where you are going, but fast, fast water in tidal race, changing channel, sharp rocks on exit / entry - makes me feel safe in the swellies, but then done it more often I guess..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
