I'm curious to find out where (other than the lake Disrict, so comprehensively covered by 'Lakesailor' in a previous discussion thread) there is good inland sailing for a sizeable trailor sailor plus any details of accommodation in the area, overnight restrictions, launching etc.....

Lake Bala in Wales and Loch Lomand in Scotland. Both quite a way from you. Lake Bala is very quiet and doesnt allow engines of any kind (except electric). Launching could be a problem since I think the only decent slip for a sizable trailer sailor would be the private sailing club.

Good launching facilities at Tarbet on lomand but a word of caution, we returned to our car after a night out on the lake to find it broken into and lots of gear and equipment stolen.

IMHO Lomand is the better of the two.

Not much use to you, but FYI, there is a vibrant inland sailing scene on Lough Derg and Lough Ree on the Shannon. Includes large and small keel boats, dingy sailing and Shannon One designs. Lough Derg is 40km approx by 18km and more like an inland sea than a lake. It is quite common to see 30/40ft Beneteau's etc out on the lake. Dromineer is one of Ireland's busiest dingy sailing centres and it is inland. Plenty of slipways too.

kielder water is lovely and has proper yachts (northumria)
ullswater is great and a bit wilder/quieter than windermere
derwentwater is lovely but shallow
thta lake that top gear launched the damper van looked quite nice too

I like Ullswater. We go motoring on there. I think it's the prettiest lake. Does cut up a bit with NE or SW /erlies though.
(sorry about the quality, I used too high an ISO speed by mistake)

Well spotted. There's too much colour noise in the water in the foreground for my taste. I still like it, although big wall prints are out.

Goodness, you people not only have to put up with cloudy skies all the time but seems like your water is covered with them too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Aren't ISO's the thingies that one burns on CD/DVD's? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I won't bother taking a photo here today - has settled down now to just calm overcast but a couple of hours ago the rain was horizontal /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. At least it is spring.

John

You got it in one. Lacksailor is a bit backward with this ISO stuff. Shame your ISO's are not up to posting as they are one of the few that could compete with his ISO's

Now it's spring there, we have high hopes your ISO's will out compete his ISO's

Ah. Well now. Winter is bestist up here for sparkly shots. So I'm not giving up yet.
What does piss me off is that Nikon used to put a little locking button next to dials on the FE and Fe2 to stop you moving the dial without meaning to.
The new digital cameras don't have that and you can easily move the mode dial so that you are suddenly on Manual when you wanted to be on Apperture Priority, or whatever.
Bloody annoying.

Nope - it's a topper one ....

I used to have 508 if anyone has seen it - last seen on the ferry to france! (yes I did sell it!)
