Injector cleaners

Slightly different, but my Kangoo DCi (electronic injection) had now done just over 400k km. No hassles, starts every day with no smoke. Just goes..
Have delt with Peugeot diesels (Indenor) and Detroit 2T supercharged engines, along with loads of gensets by Lister. I am pleasently pleased by my daily drive.

With smaller diesel engine vehicles up to when common rail injection came in it was common if the vehicle failed the MOT due to emissions to prefill a new fuel filter with injector cleaner.
Then running the engine at about 2000 rpm for at least five minutes. This would normally get a test pass.
It is to clean any sooting and gunk of the injector tips. If the injectors are worn or in need of a service then the cleaners are not much help.
You don't exactly loose a lot by trying it though.

Putting petrol - gasoline - in diesel is a really bad idea. It can cause precipitation and crystallisation in the fuel, known in the motor trade as liquid death.
Use paraffin - kerosene - which is OK to mix instead.
Years ago when fewer garages sold diesel if people ran out of diesel they would go to a petrol station and buy 6 pints of paraffin and 2 pints (a quart) of oil, mix it and use that to get to a garage which sold diesel.
