I wonder if anybody can help me .
Im taking the plunge and moving to power .I have my eye on a weekender type boat ( around £45-50K )and have looked at a Quicksilver 700 or Merry Fisher 695 . Does anybody have any opnions or thoughts on these two boats or better still some other same type boat suggestion.
I seem to be going around in circles so any advice would be great .
thanks

I think you need need to consider if you will be sleeping onboard and for how long, just overnight or for a week or more. You want as much cabin space as possibly if you do plan to sleep onboard a lot.

Of course you want to think about sea keeping abilities. If you are used to sail you will probably be used to going a bit slower but have more of a deep v. MOBO's can be bumpy when not planing. Unless you go for a non planing hull of course!

Also think about how many engines. With sail you have the backup of an engine (typically) but some MOBO's are single engine. IMO I wouldnt feel comfortable with just one engine. I have had one engine stop and was glad I had two.

I agree with the other post, put a post on the MOBO forum, you should get some good advice.

Finally try to get a go in the ones you are interested in. I am sure fellow forumites who have something similar to what you are looking for will give you a guided tour and maybe even a go!

Good luck,

D

interesting decision since we dont yet know the red diesel price. or do you know the price and I have missed the announcement?

I'm curious since I keep thinking of chopping the yacht for a power boat for the weekend cruises when I find myself using lots of engine anyway, and a sailing dinghy which will sail far better than my cruiser and give me my sailing fix.
