Information about old MMSI numbers

Just spoken to OFCOM and even if your yacht is destroyed and you buy a new one you cannot get the old MMSI number re-allocated to your new yacht. I have been told that even though the web site tells you that they are re-allocated after 5 years, this is purely on a first come first served basis and you cannot ask for a particular MMSI number.
