Hello,

I have just bought a new boat, Fairline 31 Targa. Since this model isn’t very common in Sweden I would be happy is someone could help me with information about the boat.
It is a Fairline Targa 31 from -96 with two Volvo Penta KAD44 EDC.

- Top and cruising speed?
- Fuel consumption?
- Common problems?
- Model History?

Andreas,

I have a T34 - you may find the following owners club of interest:

If the T31 is a solid and reliable as the T34, you have bought a very good boat.

I would expect your top end to be around 33-36K with a good cruising speed around 24K - fuel consumption between 1.5 and 2mpg, depending on conditions/bottom.

I have not had any major problems with my boat (2006), as long as you have it serviced regularly and with the KAD300's ensure tappets are adjusted after 200Hrs (Assume same with your engines) then I am sure you will enjoy some good cruising.

No doubt others more familiar with the model/age of your boat will fill-in the blanks!

Best regards and welcome to the forum!

It is not a common boat in the UK either, and I thought were built in the early - mid 90's, although you could have a very late one. I nearly bought one but opted for the T34 instead. I believe this model was originally the Targa 28. Since it was a 31 footer it was latterly rebadged the Targa 31, although still the exact same boat. It is not to be confused with the Targa 28 / 29 series from the mid to late ninties.

I'm guessing it originally would have had AD41s and had been re-engined with 44s??

I've known two people that had these and both loved them. They are a fine boat. I think Tico on this forum has one. He maybe able to enlighten you further.

Yeah, that is a nice boat. From memory there were a few different Fairline models around that size then, as the went from the old square screen T33s to the newer rounded screen boats. I'm absolutely sure yours is a different hull from the T28/29 and has more in common with the T33. If you're right on the year then I guess they would be some of the early KAD44s. As has been said, no problems as long as the valve clearance (tappets) are checked regularly. It is a time consuming job and hence not cheap, but MUCH cheaper than not doing them and having a blown engine.

Where do you cruise, BTW?

Hello,

Thank you all for your answers!
Does anyone know where I can find original brochures or similar? I have tried on the fairlineownersclub.com albums but with no luck…

My engines are mounted -03 and model 44 EDC so I believe they are not one of the first built.

There I cruise? On the west coast of Sweden, a fantastic place to cruise :-) ( web page )

a friend of myn was buying a 31 Targa new in 1991/92 and he said after seatrials in the UK, that the boat felt overpowered with KAD42 230hp and that engine space was very limited, youd be lucky if you put your hand between the engines...
this later mounted in a decision for a Targa 33
common problems to look for, water infiltration from the railings and rubbing strake, the rest should be ok

Yup thats me!
Certainly is a T31
Looks in lovely condition.
Were originally fitted with KAD42s.

With 44s it'll be a flyer.... top speed in excess of 40 kts and fast cruise at ~30.

Consumption ... reckon overall at around 2 mpg.

Mine has KAD 43s, i believe spannerrash hereabouts also has one, also doublevision?

PM me with any other queries.
