We are coming over from Bristol on Friday evening and meeting up with my elderly father and step mum on Saturday morning.
Before taking them out for a spin around the Holms I thought it would be a good idea to take them for brunch or an early lunch.
Anyone any sugestions please?
I thought maybe Cardiff of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club if either of them do food at that time.
Or is there somewhere on Mermaid Quay that would do a brunch type thing?
Looking for something light without busting the bank! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi CYC do basic fare,Curries, chips pie, ect for about a fiver or if you want to walk over to the Lightship in the roath basin behind the Norwegian church they do light lunches, breakfasts, toasties, for a couple of quid,or if you are feeling rich Mermaid Quay, loads of places to choose from,Eli jenkins opposite Tescos is about the cheapest.

Also there are two RN ships coming in today mooring next to the Lightship, should be interesting, not sure if they are open to the puplic though.

I apologise if anyone else got caught out by this info. I arrived at the ship at twenty past two with 3 kids to find it had closed to the public at 2 pm. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had it on what I thought was good authority that HMS Gloucester would be open all afternoon.

Bev got us tickets for Bruce Springsteen last night and most of the "Gloucester" crew seemed to be in town in full uniform. Possibly part of the drive to show more respect to the armed services? Fine by me anyway.

On a different tack, just how pants is the public transport system. We had to leave the stadium early, because Arriva Trains (or whoever deals with transport in Wales) put on their last train at 23:05. "The Boss" had just started "Born To Run" as we were making our way out by Jumpin' Jaks on Wood Street.

We were then directed to the rear of the station by people in fluorescent jackets and they occasionally shared their great wit with us which really lightened the mood. One vegetable even said something like "This way if you want to go to Bridgend - and if you don't, hard luck." How Bev and laughed as we shuffled past him and watched whilst he groomed his mate! Bloody chimps. Obviously paid peanuts!!

Then, there was a serious danger of someone getting pushed onto the track at the Station because of the panic to get the last train home. It's Saturday night for goodness sake! Where's their sense? We overheard a rail worker telling his mate that they were expecting 700 people on the platform. How unsafe is that? So when the train from London arrived, there was a bit of a push. I was so worried, that I made Bev stand in front of me - so if there was a surge and she fell in front of the train, I could go and get assistance. That's me I suppose. I'm all give, give, give.

Once we were safely back in Bridgend, we went for something to eat and watch the street brawling before getting home £100.00 poorer between us. I don't know how we managed to spend that much money, but shares in Strongbow have rocketed.

We had fine dining in Caroline Street in Cardiff before the concert. I've never seen so many chip trays dropped on the floor. All the rats in that area have probably got high cholesterol. A tray of chips apiece before we began some earnest swigging, is a healthy and nutritious start to the afternoon I think.

In conclusion, the concert was good, but next time I'll drive so we can least see it all!

Take care all,

Lizzy D
