Info for purchasing Yacht from America

I have with little success been searching the internet for an article on the requirements for leaving America with a recently purchased yacht. I am investigating the feasability of purchasing a 30 to 35' 1970 to 1990 fibreglass yacht and sailing back to New Zealand as the pricing and specs look pretty good.

Any information on customs/safety/tax requirements appreciated. Also very interested in advice from anyone who has done this.

If it's any help I bought a yacht in the US last year and shipped her back to the UK. There was very little bureaucracy on the US side. Happy to share details if you are interested
