I have followed advice given on forum and purchased Eberspacher model DL3 ex lorry. Does anyone have fitting instructions which I could copy? Told is balanced flue model and length of exhaust must equal length of air input to burner. Is it necessary to use special ducting for hot air? How many amps should main electric feed need to supply? Gratefull for any suggestions. Based Newark. Any idea where I will find supplier of bits needed to fit (eg skin fitting for exhaust)Thanks Paul.

Have a look at their Website, www.eberspacher.com

Ensure that you speak to a dealer that has marine experience, very different to fitting one into a truck.

If you cannot find a dealer local, Kruegers in Portsmouth are tops.

You should also find a maunal on the US site, www.espar.com.

Good luck, I hope that you have lots of spare cash cos it is not cheap

Ypou will need a marine mod kit which is available from Eberspacher - cost about £70 I think. Includess copper pipes and fittings to replace plastic fuel pipes used in trucks. If you contact Eberspacher they will goive you names of dealers who can order for you (not necessarily marine).Exhaust fitting not so easy and definitely not cheap. Also ducting. I have an ex truck D1LC yet to fit.

Exhaust skin fitting will cost you about £100+. Have a look at one on another boat, draw it, get some stainless pipe/plate, cut it, file it, shape it and give it to a competent welder. Remember the desighn must take into consideration the conduction of heat through the fitting to avoid heat damage to the GRP hul. The outer flange wants to be about 3" dia with a short piece of s/s 2" pipe about 3" long welded to it, you then need a piece of pipe the same dia as your exhaust, about 4" long to go through the centre of the 2" pipe, so you form a sort of co-axial arrangement. david@whitehave.freeserve.co.uk if you want a drawing. Mirror finished stainless is nice but its expensive, ask around in a local enginering works, the bits you need will be in the waste bin!

In Sailing Today Dec 2001 there is article on fitting heaters with internal and external photos of skin fitting which I had not studied carefully until I read your message. Using your measurements it looks like an internal and an external round plate of 3"diameter. The larger tube of say 2" would appear to be welded to the internal plate at an angle of 45degrees, pointing upwards, so a goose neck is formed when the exhaust pipe is attatched to the inner pipe. The inner tube goes through the outer and pokes out the side of the boat. This inner is welded to the larger tube about 2" from the inner plate only and is not attatched to outer plate. This means the heat fron inner tube passes through weld to outer tube and has to pass through about 2" distance of that tube before it dispurses through inner plate. The outer plate is cut slightly larger than inner tube so there is no heat transfer. Hope this explanation makes sense and I hope someone will confirm it is correct. If so then I can get down to making it!
