I have inherited a rag bag of different fenders, plus have 3 new XMs. The older ones are getting a bit flat, and I see they have a small plastic screw fitting at one end. How do I pump them up, and if I open the screw for a peek will I let the remaining air out?

Had exactly the same problem... 8 fenders and only two having the same type of inflator.

You should be able to get a set of nozzles for a couple of quid from your chandler which will do all types with the added bonus that the kids' footballs etc can be resurrected. I use a car tyre footpump. Don't inflate board-hard as there will be expansion in sunshine.

No need for any nozzles. Just unscrew the plastic plug and press the nozzle of the air supply against the hole. The plastic plug protects the valve, so no air should come out. If it does the valve is not working properly. Sometimes you can fix this by applying some lubricating oil to the valve before applying pressure.

Easiest with a garage compressor supply, but it works just as well with a foot pump or bicycle pump. Especially if someone else pumps and you apply the pressure.
