I have just purchased a Zodiac 260C with a new yamaha 4 stroke 2.5hp engine. A little disapointed with the performance. Does not get on the plane. I see many other similar size dingy's flying around with 3.3hp two stroke engines on. Is this the problem with 4 stroke outboards.
Tried the 4hp, and this was not much better. Very heavy the 4 stroke!! Dingy's bow was touching the sky on full throttle, maybe a trim adjustment needed or just the weight of the engine??

you need to shift your weight forward with the 4hp on the back and she'll slowly climb on to the plane. The 2.5hp is never going to do it.

I have a 260 with a 2-stroke 4hp & i weigh 13'ish stone. she climbs onto the plane quite quickly if i shift my weight forward, then after the bow drops move backwards again & ease the throttle to 3/4 and she'll stay there. Its very skittish on a 2.6m dinghy tho, only really for short bursts.

I have also just purchased 260 and was advised against smaller engine, I use 4hp 2 stroke and it does get into plane as long as I move up front for time. JBD
